6 Steps to Detox and Reset Your Mind and Body After the Holidays
The holidays are a time for indulgence—rich foods, sweet treats, and celebratory drinks. While it’s important to enjoy yourself, it’s also crucial to reset afterward. A healthy reset will help you feel more energized, focused, and ready to take on the next chapter of your fitness journey. Whether you’ve overindulged for a week or a few months, it’s never too late to get back on track. Here are six simple, effective tips I swear by when detoxing and resetting after those days (or weeks!) of overindulgence.
Follow along as these ladies detox with me! We're tracking our activity for 2 weeks, supporting each other and doing our best! I will share before and after photos of myself at the end of the 2 weeks (January 20th). I won't lose fat, but you will see a difference in the water weight and inflammation from this detox.
Week 2

1. Reset Your Mindset
One of the hardest parts of getting back into a healthy routine is the mental aspect. You might feel discouraged after seeing some progress slip away, especially if you’ve been consistent with your fitness routine for a while. Trust me, I get it! But remember, the process is what truly matters. Progress doesn’t happen overnight. Instead of focusing on any setbacks, trust the journey. Stay calm, stay consistent, and you’ll get back on track. Believe in yourself—small, steady actions add up to big results over time.
2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Drinking enough water is non-negotiable during a detox period. It’s easy to forget about hydration after all the rich foods and festive drinks of the holidays, but water is essential for flushing out toxins and aiding digestion. I recommend carrying a water bottle with you throughout the day. My go-to is a 64-ounce bottle, which I refill twice a day to ensure I’m staying on top of my hydration. (128oz a day during the detox)
One tip that helps me to drink more water in less time is drinking with a wide straw (a smoothie straw). You can also add a squeeze of lemon or a few slices of cucumber for extra flavor.

Additionally, green tea is a fantastic detox drink. Whether you prefer it hot or cold, it’s packed with antioxidants and can help with digestion. If you’re in the mood for something refreshing, cold-brewed green tea is a great option. Just brew it and keep it in the fridge overnight, and you’ll have a cool, hydrating and detoxing beverage.
3. Pamper Your Skin with a Green Tea Matcha Mask
Your body isn’t the only thing that needs detoxing after the holidays—your skin deserves some love too. After all that rich food, sugar, and salt, your skin can feel a little sluggish. To rejuvenate it, try a DIY green tea matcha mask. Matcha powder, a concentrated form of green tea, has fantastic anti-inflammatory properties. When mixed with yogurt and honey, it makes a deeply moisturizing face mask that’s packed with B vitamins, antibacterials and can help reduce redness and irritation. Apply it once a week to give your skin a natural detox boost.
4. Eat Clean to Purge Toxins
Eating clean is a priority for me during my detox period, and it should be for you too. After all the sugary, salty, and fatty foods we often indulge in during the holidays, it’s time to reset our bodies by focusing on wholesome, nutrient-dense foods. This is your chance to cut out processed foods and focus on fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. It’s not about deprivation; it’s about nourishing your body with the fuel it needs to perform at its best.
Additionally, it's worth noting that the sugar, salt, and fat found in many holiday foods trigger a similar addictive response in your body to drugs. This can make it harder to resist cravings. By focusing on clean, wholesome foods, you’ll break the cycle of cravings and feel more satisfied overall.
5. Get Moving with Regular Exercise
Exercise is a key part of any detox process. It doesn’t mean you need to push yourself through intense workouts right away, but I recommend committing to at least three 30-minute workouts per week. The goal during this recovery period is to listen to your body and go at your own pace. It’s about rebuilding strength, not burning yourself out.
If you’re not sure where to start, check out my fitness channel for sample routines and full-length follow-along videos. Consistency is key here, so make sure to show up for yourself each day, even if it’s just for a short workout. Over time, you'll see improvements in both your strength and your mood.
6. Prioritize Sleep: 7 to 8 Hours a Night
Rest is a vital component of any detox routine, and sleep plays a key role in the body's natural healing process. While I personally find it challenging to get a full 8 hours, I make it a priority because it’s during sleep that our cells regenerate and repair themselves most effectively. If you're cleansing your body or starting a new workout routine, getting adequate rest is especially important. Sleep allows your muscles to recover, your mind to reset, and your body to restore itself after all the hard work you've put in during the day. So, aim for at least 7 to 8 hours a night to give your body the time it needs to heal and thrive.
Stay Committed for at Least Two Weeks!
A detox doesn’t work overnight, but if you commit to these six steps for at least two weeks, I guarantee you’ll see results. Hydrate, eat clean, move your body, and give your mind the space to reset. Within two weeks, you’ll notice changes in your skin tone, your mental clarity, and even your energy levels. You’ll feel stronger, and if you’ve been consistent, you might even start seeing some muscle tone appear. Just remember, this isn’t about perfection. It’s about building sustainable habits that will carry you forward.
So, here’s to a new year, a new you, and a fresh start. It’s time to take control, reset, and show up for yourself. If you stick to these six steps, you’ll be well on your way to a healthier, happier version of yourself. I’m doing it right alongside you, and I can’t wait to share our progress as we go. Let’s do this!
